New Power Zone Instructors (Part 2)

Tunde Oyeneyin’s first Power Zone class dropped November 26th. Her’s was the second of the three new instructors (Hannah Frankson, Tunde Oyeneyin, and Charlotte Weidenbachand) to drop following Hannah’s on November 13th.

The intent of this review in to compare Tunde’s style with the other instructors because every Power Zone instructor is solid and there are no bad instructors. How does Tunde fit with the first five Power Zone instructors and the subsequent additions; and will her style mesh with your tastes?

Tunde Oyeneyin: The Instructor

Tunde has been a Peloton instructor since September 2019

Tunde in some ways is the exact opposite to Hannah (Teacher’s Pet). Tunde enunciates very clearly and sharply compared to Hannah’s British accent. While Hannah is a Matt fan girl and Power Zone diehard, Tunde had very little to say about Power Zone training and spoke with no awe or reverence about Matt (she loves him as a person to be clear).

The 30 minute ride didn’t give a definitive answer to whether Tunde expects you to ride on the beat of the music particularly since the plan for the intervals was intentional about cadence. She will definately be bringing her own music style to the ride a la Denis and Christine. She claims a veriety of genres and mostly very current, so that does not overlap with my personal order of music selection (classic rock, 80s, 70s, 90s, etc). That said, the music and how she absorbed herself in it worked.

Near the end of the ride, Tunde mentioned how she ended up becoming a Power Zone instructor: Diversity. Which she originally turned down until her sister mentioned how she’d like to see instructors who looked like them.

The anecdote is interesting in that Tunde did not come off as a strong believer in Power Zone training (hence she is “The Instructor” and not “The Trainer”). She taught the plan but she could just as easily have taught a Tabata or climb plan. It was only a 30 minute class so it remains to be seen if she gets more into the philosophy (and sometimes obsession) of Power Zone training in her next classes.

Power Zone Side Note

This review came out late because I was busy completing my first Power Zone training plan (Build Your Power Zones). I’ve done multipe Power Zone pack challenges but this was my first Peloton program. Thumbs up for content that is just for the program (so new to me). I saw a few names repeat on the leaderboards over the 5 weeks; but you get much more of a team feel when doing the PZP challenge.

As always, if you see KingWink on the leaderboard, send me a high five! Charlotte is based in Germany (like the Happy Giant). I’ve learned that doing a ride in German is not for me. So when an English ride drops from Charlotte, look back here for New Power Zone Instructors (Part 3).
