New Power Zone Instructors Part 3

Continuing this slow rollout of reviewing “new” PZ instructors Hannah Frankson, Tunde Oyeneyin, and Charlotte Weidenbachand who were announced three months ago. I’m going to give impressions of Charlotte even though the ride was not actually a PZ class.

As always, any Power Zone instructor you choose will present you with a structured ride but with their specific style (the original five Power Zone instructors). The reviews are meant to guide your choice based on your current mood or goal not as to whether the instructors are good or bad.

Charlotte 30 min Rock Ride from 1/7/24

Charlotte Weidenbach: DR HYDE

Before Peloton, Charlotte worked as a doctor of medicine at the University of Berlin

All of Charlotte’s dropped PZ classes are in German, like most of her classes. That’s a deal breaker for me, but I did try one of her other classes to get a feel for her style.

There are similarities to Erik (Happy Giant) in their enthusiasm and humor (maybe a German thing); but, as the class went along the better comparison felt like Denis (Flipside GOAT) only with younger music choices.

FYI, the HYDE part of the nickname is a combo of her audience reply (“Hell Yes”) and German (DE). Similar to the “Yes, Yo” in Y2UK

Tunde Oyeneyin: The Instructor (reiterate)

Still not feeling that Tunde is a PZ training believer. Rode a 45-minute PZ Endurance ride and she never mentioned the FTP test or how PZ Endurance fit within the PZ classes. She barely explained the two zones for the ride. If she’s attracting new members to PZ rides, they would have no clue as to why a PZ class differs from regular classes or how PZ classes fit within PZ training.

Christine D’Ercole: The Wildcard (reiterate)

Love to hear her race stories and I also can’t help but listen to the lyrics of a song. However, kicking off a ride (her class from 2/15) by bringing in the world baggage just does not suit me. I go to CNN on my schedule when I’m ready to absorb the sh-t in the world. At seven am I want a good sweat to good music. Her empathy is admirable, and the story later in the ride about the breast cancer survivor racer is awesome. But, the timing goes against her mantra that often kicks off her rides, “drop your shoulders, drop your baggage”
